Our Policy on Peat

At Chew Valley Trees we only use peat-free compost to pot up our trees and all other plants.

The compost we use is a sustainable medium endorsed by the RHS, created from UK forestry waste material (bark and woodchip) and coir. We also only sell peat-free compost at the nursery.

Since switching to peat-free compost many years ago, we have not found any diminished growth in our trees as a result. If anything, the excellent drainage provided by our peat-free growing media helps our plants to thrive.

At this time, we cannot guarantee that trees we trade from other nurseries are peat free (due to fluctuating demand we buy in some trees ready potted). Please ask if you would like to know whether your selected trees are guaranteed peat-free.
