May and June Bank holiday opening

26th Apr 2022

Having been blessed with glorious sunshine over the Easter break, we can only keep our fingers crossed that the luck holds out for the next raft of bank holidays. Although some of us gardeners would actually welcome a spot of rain, it's true. (Don't forget to start watering newly planted trees now they are coming into leaf!)

On that note, please be aware that the nursery will be closed on the upcoming Mayday bank holiday, Monday 2 May 2022. However we are remaining open as normal for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee holiday, Thursday 2nd June, Friday 3rd June and Saturday 4th June, 8.30am-4.30pm. We are not open on Sundays.

The Jubilee celebrations are very much focused on trees. The Queen's Green Canopy (QGC) is an initiative asking everyone to "Plant a tree for the Jubilee", and as a symbol of this push to get commemorative trees in the ground, an amazing sculpture featuring 350 native trees is being installed outside Buckingham Palace. The 70ft high 'tree of trees' has been designed by Thomas Heatherwick Studios, who are also behind a pretty incredible development in Shanghai called '1,000 Trees', amongst many other projects. In addition to the push for planting, a network of 70 ancient woodlands is being dedicated under the Jubilee, and 70 individual ancient trees, to mark the monarch's 70 years of service.

We thoroughly encourage everyone to join in the planting celebration. You can add your tree to the QGC map and even apply for a commemorative plaque (physical or virtual). Find some inspiration in our guides section or speak to one of our knowledgeable staff at the nursery to help you choose your tree(s).
