This small, deciduous tree provides a welcome display of white flowers in early summer followed by spherical, shiny red berries. Setting it apart from other hawthorns is the fabulous autumn colouring of orange, copper and crimson. Its leaves are quite different from our common hawthorn being broadly oval and with an appealing glossy polish. This is a stocky little tree with numerous short spines and, in true hawthorn-style, will thrive in any site, even exposed, provided the soil is well-drained.
