An attractive japanese, small tree with similar heart-shaped leaves to a Judas Tree. In spring the leaves emerge pinkish, turning to green then in autumn to a wide range of yellows, pinks and reds. The foliage emits a curious fragrance of burnt sugar. Plant in dappled shade if possible, with protection from cold winds and frosts.
