Alnus - Alder
Alders are a family of tough, fast growing trees. They will grow in almost any situation, many will tolerate wet, even waterlogged ground. The leaves are generally rounded or heart shaped. Catkins are produced early in spring and the seed cones are usually held on the tree all winter.
There is one native Alder, Alnus glutinosa, Common or Brook Alder.
