What size to choose
Once trees are bigger than about 6-8 ft they are measured on the circumference of
the girth 3ft above the ground. The overall height in feet generally equates to the girth
size in centimetres (see the table below). Although the largest size we list is 10-12 cm
girth we do have larger specimens of many trees. Generally each increase in girth
size represents a year’s growth. A consideration for trees 12-14 cm girth and above
can be access to the planting site: they can be heavy and difficult to move without
mechanical help. If you are planting them yourself and have minimal experience of
tree planting 8-10 cm girth is the largest we would recommend. We can easily
fit 6-8 cm girth and 15 L trees into most cars and often 8-10 cm and 30 L ones too.
The following chart gives an indicative size for most deciduous trees. There are exceptions such as evergreens and weeping trees. Please call us if you need to know the exact specification of a particular tree.

Very small = up to 5 metres (16ft)
Small = up to 10 metres (30ft)
Medium = 10 – 20 metres (30-60ft)
Large = over 20 metres (60ft and above)
