Deciduous, round-headed, medium tree. Heart-shaped leaves turn a wonderful yellow in autumn. Produces oval, dark purple/red edible fruit in late summer. Mature trees usually have a curious, gnarled and twisted appearance with a low, spreading canopy. Needs a warm, sunny site for good crops of fruit.
