Hello Bev,

I am afraid to say that this tree does not do well on sites that have had honey fungus. I am planning to do a blog on honey fungus soon. I will send you a like once I have got it done.

How would this tree fare in a clay border which has recently lost trees due to honey fungus? (The infected stumps have been ground out and the holes drenched with Armillatox).

Would planting the stems of same species trees closer together cause competition for light and cause taller trees with thinner trunks ? Could the trunks thicken normally in the taller trees giving more volume of timber ?
I intend to plant 2 acres over 2 years by lifting young trees and transplanting, propagation and buying others. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I am sorry to say that it does sound as though your serrula has died, the lack of leaves being the biggest indicator. But if you are able to send me a digital photograph of the tree to info@chewvalleytrees.co.uk I should be able to confirm this for you. Simon

We have a serrula in our garden,it's about 12 years old but for the past couple of years it has had no leaves or flowers. Do you think it has died and how do I tell?
